What I See in You
If no one has told you lately, I want you to know this:
You’re doing better than you think.
I know you probably notice the moments when you break down, the days that feel overwhelming, or the times you wonder if you’re handling any of this the way you should.
But I see something else.
I see someone who wakes up each day and faces a life they never asked for.
I see someone who keeps showing up, even on the days when it takes everything they have just to make it through.
I see someone who is learning to live in a world that changed the moment their person died.
Please don’t compare your grief to anyone else’s.
No one else had your relationship.
No one else lost the person you lost.
No one else knows what this loss has asked of you.
So today, I just want you to stop for a moment and realize how far you’ve already come.
Not because the pain is gone.
Not because life is back to the way it was.
But because you’re still here.
You’re still loving.
You’re still remembering.
You’re still finding the strength to keep moving forward, even when it’s hard.
I’m proud of you.
I know you probably don’t hear that enough.
But I hope you know just how incredibly well you’re doing.
If these words connected with you, you’ll find many more like them in What Remains. It’s a collection of the writings I’ve shared over the years, bringing together reflections on grief, love, loss, and the connections that continue long after someone is gone.
I hope it brings you comfort, understanding, and the reminder that you’re not alone.
