I hope you have a good day today.
And if you do, I hope you don’t feel guilty about it.
I hope you laugh at something and don’t immediately feel bad because I’m not there to laugh with you.
I hope you make plans and actually look forward to them.
I hope you catch yourself having fun and don’t wonder if it means you’re forgetting me.
I hope there are moments when grief isn’t the first thing on your mind.
Because I never wanted my death to become the reason you stopped enjoying your life.
You loved me.
You still love me.
A good day doesn’t change that.
Laughing doesn’t change that.
Being happy doesn’t change that.
And moving forward with your life doesn’t erase the life we shared.
So please, when a good day comes, let yourself have it.
Don’t apologize for it.
Don’t question it.
Don’t convince yourself that loving me means you have to be sad forever.
If I could tell you anything, I’d tell you this:
I want there to be good days ahead for you.
A lot of them.
And when they come, I hope you let yourself live them.
If these words connected with you, you’ll find many more like them in What Remains. It’s a collection of the writings I’ve shared over the years, bringing together reflections on grief, love, loss, and the connections that continue long after someone is gone.
I hope it brings you comfort, understanding, and the reminder that you’re not alone.
