Grief is a journey, not a destination.
People want to tell you there’s an end point.
That someday you’ll “arrive” at acceptance, as if it’s a place you get to unpack your bags and move on.
But grief doesn’t work like that.
There is no finish line. No moment when the pain suddenly disappears.
The truth is that grief doesn’t fade—it just waits.
It waits until you let your guard down.
Until you start to think you’re okay.
And then it hits you out of nowhere - stealing your breath, knocking you sideways, ripping open wounds you thought had healed.
It’s not a chapter you close. It’s the book you now carry everywhere you go.
It changes with you.
It reshapes itself as you do.
And maybe that’s the hardest part—knowing you’ll never reach a place where it’s “over.”
You simply learn to live inside it.
To breathe through it.
To let it carve you open and teach you how much love your heart was ever capable of holding.
Grief is a journey. And though it’s brutal, unrelenting, and unfair, it’s also proof.
Proof of the love that was real.
Proof of the bond that can’t be broken by death.
Proof that even in the darkest pain, you carry something eternal.
Not a destination.
But a road you’ll walk for the rest of your life—because grief never let's go.
If these words connected with you, you’ll find many more like them in What Remains. It’s a collection of the writings I’ve shared over the years, bringing together reflections on grief, love, loss, and the connections that continue long after someone is gone.
I hope it brings you comfort, understanding, and the reminder that you’re not alone.
